Our 2021 The Outlier Grenache is a lighter style of Barossa Valley old vine Grenache. Aromas of florals, rhubarb, wild strawberry, and delicate spice notes. Smooth and supple on the palate with delicious red fruit flavours. An extremely drinkable Barossa Valley Grenache best enjoyed slightly chilled.

Our 2021 The Outlier Grenache is a lighter style of Barossa Valley old vine Grenache. Aromas of florals, rhubarb, wild strawberry, and delicate spice notes. Smooth and supple on the palate with delicious red fruit flavours. An extremely drinkable Barossa Valley Grenache best enjoyed slightly chilled.

The Vineyard

The Grenache grapes are sourced from the Dahlitz vineyard due south of the Tanunda township. The old vines were planted in the Barossa Valley in and around the 1940s. The soils consist of black cracking clay with remnants of alluvial flood plain soil from the banks of the North Para River. The hand spur pruned vineyard is cooled from the prevailing South Easterly wind which funnels down the banks of the river. The winds provide much-needed relief during the warmer ripening months.

The Vintage

In 2021 cooler than average conditions prevailed in January and February in the Barossa Valley. The threat of rain loomed around late March/April. However, no rain and the Grenache grapes could safely hang on the vines a bit longer. The perfect scenario for extra flavour and concentration in the grapes.

Winemaking

We handpicked the Grenache grapes and carefully fermented it in our on-site micro-winery. We retained 40% whole bunches in the ferment to increase the complexity and perfume of the wine. Post ferment we gently pressed using a basket press to separate the wine and the skins. We matured in old French oak for six months before bottling unfiltered to maintain absolute freshness in this delicate old vine Grenache.

The Food Match

For the best drinking experience, serve slightly chilled.  Pairs well with mildly spiced dishes, pizza, or pasta.
